Dr Richard Smart, one of the best qualified viticulturists in the world, has today welcomed the development of a terpene vineyard fungicide as currently being developed by Eden Research plc, the agrochemical and pharmaceutical company.
Dr Smart comments:
“I am excited by the prospects of this totally organic fungicide, with demonstrated effectiveness against the major fungal pathogens of grapevines. I look forward to working with Eden Research to have the product evaluated in the major grape growing countries of the world.”
Dr Smart has spent over 40 years pioneering studies in vineyards and undertook some of the world’s first experiments with implementing drip irrigation systems in vineyards. He has published over 250 articles including theses, books, conference papers and reports on vineyard efficiency and development.
The fungicide is currently being trialled in vineyards and the results of these trials will be available upon the completion of the Southern Hemisphere’s 2004-2005 growing season.
