Eden Research plc, a leading UK agrochemical development company, has held its Annual General Meeting today at which all resolutions were duly passed.
Over the past year, Eden has focused on supporting its commercial partners Cheminova and Redestos to achieve product registrations in their respective territories. The processing of the dossier for 3-AEY by the EU Rapporteur is on target for completion at the end of this year; no further data have been requested. This milestone would allow individual country applications to be made from early 2009 onwards.
Testing by our partners continues to highlight the performance benefits of our naturally based treatment. Field trials for label extensions in several high-value crops such as strawberries are in process.
Having granted Cheminova extended territories under the original agreement, we are now in advanced discussions with significant distributors to complete deals in other specialist markets such as Africa and Asia.
During the period, Eden entered into testing agreements with major European protected-crop specialist Koppert B.V. and a leading US-based biopesticide manufacturer. These agreements cover short-term testing of new development areas such as insecticidal applications and product enhancement.
Eden's nematicide product has been subjected to extensive screening in all relevant territories over the past year. New application techniques supported by novel granular formulations have been developed by our contract research contractor Battelle. We plan to commence the registration programme next year. Globally, markets are desperately seeking new products due to increasing regulatory restrictions on existing soil treatments and toxic, broad-spectrum products.
In addition, the company has broadened its product portfolio having identified new leads for the control of mites and whitefly in high-value glasshouse crops. Eden's products exhibited excellent efficacy as well as safety to many of the beneficial insects used to control pests in integrated crop management programmes.
Eden has rapidly developed its patented technology from concept. The safe nature of the activities has helped us to achieve rapid progress through the regulatory process and our first products are planned to be on the market early next year. Much of the work is also completed on other products in the company's portfolio.
I would like to thank our team for their excellent work and expect to be able to announce further commercial progress in relation to the registration of our lead product 3-AEY and further commercial agreements over the next year.
