OUR TECHNOLOGY
PLANT TERPENES ARE SECONDARY METABOLITES AND ARE ONE OF EVOLUTION’S ANSWERS TO NATURAL PLANT DEFENCE MECHANISMS.
Eden Research plc has gained approval for use of geraniol, thymol and eugenol as active substances for plant protection products in both conventional and organic agriculture.
(Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 and Regulation (EU) 2019/2164 amending Annex II of Regulation (EC) 889/2008)
The primary mode of action of terpenes is to disrupt cell membranes and cause loss of
membrane integrity.
As volatile compounds found in essential oils, they have been utilised as a means of crop protection for centuries. Until recently, due to their volatility and hydrophobicity, there was no practical means of applying them successfully at scale in agriculture/horticulture.
Stable formulations rely on a means of encapsulation, and due to the use of Eden’s patented Sustaine® technology, high capacity loading of terpenes with a phased release mechanism is now achievable.

Eden utilises materials derived from nature to create formulations for numerous markets
Individual terpenes or combinations of multiple terpenes are encapsulated with our Sustaine technology, to create a stable, aqueous capsule suspension
The final products have applications in crop protection, animal health and consumer products
Liquid, powdered or granular formulations are possible
Terpenes are natural substances, ubiquitous in nature and widely used in the food flavouring, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
As a result, Eden biopesticide products are exempt from maximum residue limits and provide ultimate flexibility for farmers and growers to use them right up to the point of harvest.
* Annex IV approval of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 - European legislation on maximum residue levels (MRLs) of pesticides in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin.
